Andra Watkins was raised as a Christian fundamentalist. Here she explains the Christian nationalist agenda, as contained in Project 2025, and being pushed rapidly by the current American regime. Women are being progressively deprived of the right to vote, beginning with the SAVE Act. The ultimate goal is to repeal the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote, in favour of a family vote cast by the husband. The SAVE act pretends to be about protecting elections by ensuring that only citizens can vote. It is already the case that only citizens can vote, and plenty if research exists to prove that voter fraud is not a valid concern. Nevertheless, this legislation will impose extremely strict identification measures, and these will affect married women and anyone else whose name no longer matches that on their birth certificate.
The only ID that will be considered truly acceptable is a passport, but only a minority of Americans have one, and they aren’t free. This amounts to a poll tax. Poorer people will not be able to afford one, and so will not be able to vote. Both women and poorer people tend to vote Democratic, so this is a major voter suppression bill, targeting selectively. Trump has also demanded state voter rolls, so those likely to vote ahpgainst him can be selectively removed from the register without their knowledge. If they don’t or can’t reregister in time, they will not be able to vote at all.
The current regime would lose a free and fair election in a landslide, leaving both houses of Congress in Democratic hands. For this reason they cannot allow a free and fair election, or the result would be impeachment and conviction of many current cabinet members, as well as the president. On top of voter suppression, they plan to have ICE agents overseeing polling places, and ICE agents are allowed to racially profile citizens, demanding proof of citizenship on the spot, and often deliberately failing to recognise it when presented. They may end up dragging people away from voting lines and holding them until the election is over. The current regime, especially the president, is racist to the core. He specifically favours only white immigration, while complaining that non-white immigrants have ‘poor genes’ and are ‘polluting the gene pool’. Trump is already talking about removing Muslims from society. He might treat them like the Japanese-American citizens were treated during WW2, with internment. These are overtly racist and eugenicist positions grounded in ignorance.
Fascism is never gentle. It considers compromise, empathy and legal constraints on violence to be weaknesses to be expunged from society. The weak are to be despised, and kicked when they’re down if possible. Women, minorities, and anyone with a liberal mindset are to be abused, while extreme violence in the service of empire is unleashed on the world. The empire will not respect sovereignty of any kind, either national sovereignty or sovereignty over one’s own body. What it wants it will take if it can, with no consideration for the human cost. This is already happening in the Middle East, which should rightly be called West Asia. Hundreds of thousands of people have already been killed, and this is only the beginning. Billions of people’s health has already been compromised by toxic food, toxic medications, toxic pesticides, and toxic shots. Few people can avoid the impacts. Protect bodily integrity at all costs if you possibly can. Protect national sovereignty collectively if you possibly can. It won’t easy, but nothing truly worth doing ever is.
